DATELINE: A MOON-DRENCHED BEACH
(March 15, 4:01 AM, year unknown)

Fellow passengers, it’s another beautiful day in the Limoverse. We find ourselves on a beach at night, no sign of how we got here — no tire tracks, not even footprints. It’s going to take a moment to find our bearings because the seconds feel infinite in the dark.

At least there’s something to look at. In the pools of four spotlights:

• a pot, unwatched

• an apple, redder than it should be

• a block of butter, wrapped in a shroud

• an hourglass full of grain

And far out on the tideflats, breaking the slick glass surface of the sand: is that the tip of a spoon? Someone’s fingerprints on it, traces of clay, a few words scrawled in graphite. They shimmer under a passing moonbeam: Sometimes this just happens…

With a flash of black static it’s gone. Did you dream that too? asks the lone star in the sky from somewhere behind the dunes.

I guess we’ll just do like we always do…

This should only take a minute.
